Over £11,000 Compensation Secured for Family of Four
Our travel law team were recently instructed by a family of four whose holiday to Tunisia was ruined by holiday illness caused by poor hygiene standards at their hotel.
Miss Leander Flaherty booked a two week stay for herself and three family members at the Houda Golf & Beach Club hotel in Tunisia, through tour operator Thomas Cook.
Around three days into their all-inclusive family holiday, all four individuals began to suffer from symptoms related to food poisoning. The family suffered from stomach cramps, diarrhoea, vomiting and high temperatures, as well as fatigue and headaches.
Poor hygiene standards
According to Miss Flahaerty and her family, they noted a strong smell of sewage upon their immediate arrival at the Houda Golf & Beach Club hotel.
The family also claimed that as well as food served in the hotel restaurant being severely under-cooked at times, food wasn’t served at the correct temperature and always appeared reheated and left out for long periods of time.
Our clients stated that the restaurant itself appeared unclean and that the crockery and cutlery available were also dirty. Our clients also noted that staff handling food did not were protective gloves and that food was generally of a poor standard. Drinks also appeared to be watered down.
Chef dismissed during stay
According to the family of four, their experience at the hotel was so awful that they complained to the manager. When they did, management proceeded to actually dismiss the chef working in the restaurant at the time – in full view of our clients.

“If this applies to you then we’d encourage you to get in touch. Suffering with diarrhoea and vomiting as a result of poor hygiene whilst on holiday is simply unacceptable and action can be taken.”
