We understand that if you have been subjected to an act of violence, your thoughts will turn to making a full recovery – compensation will likely be the last thing on your mind.
There is however a government scheme that provides compensation to victims or their families at this tragic time. The scheme is called CICA (The Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority).
Claiming through CICA
Once your claim is accepted by Hampson Hughes Solicitors, we will liaise with CICA on your behalf. Upon your application for compensation proving successful, we will review the amount awarded and advise you on any decisions which we feel are unsatisfactory.
In order for CICA to accept a Criminal Injury claim, two typical requirements usually need to be met:
- The incident was reported to the Police promptly
- The victim co-operated with Police in bringing the assailant to justice
The time limit for making a claim to the CICA is two years from the date of the incident.
