Jade Anderson death: Parents hold ‘positive’ talks with ministers

The parents of a Jade Anderson who was attacked and killed by dogs have held “very positive” talks with ministers about tightening dangerous dog laws.

The attack happened when Jade was visiting a friend’s house near Wigan, on 26 March.
Her parents Shirley and Michael Anderson have stated that changes are needed to the Dangerous Dogs (Amendment) Bill to prevent this from happening to others.

Campaigning in Jades memory, the family started a petition “to make dog owners accountable”. They want police to be able to prosecute dog owners if attacks occur “on private property”.

The government said it was planning to extend police powers for any attacks on private property.

The Andersons also stated that there should be more done about early intervention with potential problem animals.

Under the new plans, a dog owner could now be prosecuted if they fail to stop their dog attacking someone on their own, or someone else’s property.
