Gingivitis and Periodontitis (Gum Disease)

Gingivitis (gum inflammation) begins with bacterial growth in the mouth, caused by a build-up of plaque. If not properly treated, gingivitis may develop into a condition called periodontitis, widely referred to as gum disease, which can result in loss of teeth as the surrounding tissue is destroyed.

Gum disease is highly prevalent. In the UK, the NHS estimate that half the adult population has some degree of gum disease and most people experience it at least once.

Further, each year in the UK severe periodontitis affects 10
