Multiple fractures – who can claim?

You could be entitled to maximum personal injury compensation where your multiple fracture wound was caused by an accident that was not your fault – this includes instances of criminal injury. You may experience difficulty in self-diagnosing multiple fractures. Where a bone is not visibly displaced, symptoms such as pain and swelling could be misinterpreted as a sprain or a strain.

Multiple fracture symptoms include:

  • Deformity
  • Relative instability
  • Unnatural lumps under the skin
  • Heavy bruising (also known as ‘contusions’)
  • A break in the skin directly over the affected area

You may also experience a decrease in muscle strength in the affected area. This is typically accompanied by tingling and a temporary reduced sensation in the surrounding tissue.

Types of Fracture

Common types of fracture include:

  • Compound fracture – the broken bone penetrates the skin
  • Comminuted fracture – the bone shatters or splinters into many pieces
  • Stable fracture – a clean break allowing the bone to re-align with relative ease
  • Oblique fracture – a diagonal fracture (typically the most complicated type of fracture)

Multiple fracture claim time limit

We advise speaking to us as soon as you believe that you may be entitled to personal injury compensation. Any cause for delay in beginning your multiple fracture compensation claim may be taken into account regarding your personal injury claim time limit. For further information, please see What is the personal injury claim time limit? or contact us today for instant answers and peace of mind.
