£3,300 Secured for Holiday Illness in Cyprus
Our travel law team were recently instructed by a couple of clients who suffered from severe holiday illness caused by poor hygiene standards at their choice of hotel.
Our clients booked a fourteen night stay at the Louis Phaethon Beach Club in Paphos, Cyprus in June 2014 and the holiday was booked as an all-inclusive package deal with Thomson.
As soon as they arrived, our clients noticed a strong smell of sewage around the hotel grounds.
When our clients visited the hotel restaurant, they witnessed a number of cats walking around the eating areas. They also saw a high volume of insects including and cockroaches near food that was often left uncovered for long periods of time. Our clients claim that the food often appeared under-cooked and reheated, and that meat was covered in thick sauces, making it difficult to know what they were eating.
Just three days into their holiday, our clients began to feel unwell. They both suffered symptoms including stomach cramps, diarrhoea, vomiting and fatigue. Our clients pertain that their symptoms were a direct result of the poor levels of hygiene at the hotel, especially with regards to the all-inclusive restaurant.
