Operation Doublet: Rochdale child sex abuse

Six men are due to appear in Bury Magistrates’ Court this week over allegations of child sexual exploitation. The claims against the men relate to offences committed between 2004 and 2008 in the Rochdale area. Operation Doublet, led by Greater Manchester Police, has seen the arrest of 83 people to date, of which 15 have been interviewed under caution and 25 have been prosecuted.

Operation Doublet – 6 men charged

Joshim Miah (31), Mohammed Sadeer (27), Naheem Akram (39), Ittefaq Yousaf (25), Arfan Iqbal (25), and a man who cannot be named for legal reasons, face accusations including trafficking, sexual assault, and inciting a minor to engage in sexual activity. The arrests are a result of investigations that began in 2011 following reports of child sexual exploitation in Rochdale.

Rob Potts, Assistant Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police, commented:

“These types of investigations remain incredibly complex and challenging but at the heart of our considerations is the welfare of the victims and we have a team of experienced and dedicated officers supporting them through the process.

“The sexual exploitation of children and young people is the absolute priority for Greater Manchester police and its partners.

“Since 2010 we have moved considerable resources into child protection and the investigation of sexual exploitation and the continuance of Operation Doublet is a symbol of our steadfast resolve to investigate these offences, no matter the timeframe, and to ensure that, where there is a case to answer, it is brought before the courts.”
